Police Involve Digital Forensic Experts to Investigate the Murder of a Nabire Student

Nabire Police involved digital forensic experts to extract data from three mobile phones as part of the investigation into the murder case of a junior high school student in Nabire Regency, Central Papua.

Nabire Police Chief AKBP Samuel Dominggus Tatiratu in Nabire, Thursday, said the digital extraction of the evidence is scheduled to take place on August 7, 2026, in Jayapura.

"The implementation of extraction and cellebrite on evidence in the form of three mobile phones, two belonging to the victim and one belonging to the Child in Conflict with the Law (ABH), is scheduled for tomorrow in Jayapura," he said.

He explained that the digital forensic examination was conducted to complete the evidence and strengthen the proof in the prosecution process.

In addition to examining the mobile phones, investigators have also scheduled expert examinations of closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings as well as the doctor who performed the post-mortem examination on the victim.

According to him, investigators will also conduct a psychological examination of the ABH on the same day as part of the investigation stages in accordance with applicable provisions.

He said that after all expert examinations are completed, investigators will hold another case review to determine the reconstruction schedule at the crime scene (TKP) by coordinating with the victim's family's legal counsel.

He explained that up to now, investigators have elevated the case status from investigation to prosecution, named AWS as a suspect, and sent a Notice of Commencement of Investigation (SPDP) to the Nabire District Attorney's Office.

In addition, he said, investigators have examined six witnesses, conducted an examination of the ABH accompanied by legal counsel and the Correctional Center (Bapas), and completed the confiscation and sealing of evidence.

"We are handling this case professionally, transparently, and guided by National Police SOPs, regardless of the perpetrator's family background," he said.

He added that investigators target the first phase of the case file to be transferred to the Nabire District Attorney's Office next week after all investigation completeness is fulfilled.

He also appealed to the public not to be easily influenced by unverified information and to fully entrust the case handling process to law enforcement officials.
